the story behind „free spirit.“

Abstract painting, oil and acrylic on canvas

free spirit. emerged from a time in my life when I felt confined—not by walls, but by structure. A life shaped by schedules, expectations, school, work, and constant obligation slowly began to feel like a quiet cage. Everything functioned, everything moved forward, yet something within me felt restrained.

One spring day, during a simple walk, I stopped by a pond. Beneath the surface, I noticed two fish moving through the water. They were contained within the boundaries of the pond—clearly not free in a physical sense—yet there was a calm, effortless flow in the way they moved. They carried no visible urgency, no resistance. In that moment, I realized something essential: freedom does not always exist in space, but in spirit.

This painting reflects that realization. The two fish are surrounded by layered shades of blue, turquoise, and soft light, their forms partially dissolved into the movement of the water. They are not sharply defined, but fluid—almost merging with their surroundings. The abstraction mirrors the inner state I longed for: the ability to move freely within limitation, to find peace despite constraint.

free spirit. is about learning that even when life feels structured, demanding, or enclosing, the mind and soul can remain free. Like the fish in the pond, we may exist within boundaries—but our spirit does not have to be trapped by them.
